Five Minutes With... Sara Elhadi

Dermatologist at VLCC

Sara Elhadi.

Were you always interested in dermatology?

Yes. Since I graduated I was looking forward to getting a specialisation degree in dermatology as I feel it is an extremely rewarding specialty.

Would you say that patients in this region are more open to aesthetics procedures?

Yes totally, I believe the clients in Dubai are always full of enthusiasm and up to date when it comes to aesthetics.

What is PRP?

PRP is concentrate of platelet rich plasma protein derived from whole blood which has been centrifuged. This process separates platelets from other blood components. The concentration of platelets is then injected into the area of the person's body that needs to be treated.

How is the procedure used in aesthetics?

PRP is rich in growth factors and peptides that help to repair damaged tissue and regenerate new tissue. When the serum is applied to the face, the development of collagen and elastin is stimulated giving the skin a fresh, revitalised appearance. When this serum is injected into the scalp, the growth factors attract stem cells in order to stimulate the development of new hair follicles. PRP may be used in combination with facial rejuvenating procedures to improve final outcomes.

Should any precautions be taken before or after the procedure?

A patient who undergoes the procedure should be checked before to make sure no blood related disorders or malignancies exist, a detailed medical history for chronic illnesses and long term medications to address any issues for safety is important too.

Any specific topical or oral treatment such as retinoid should be avoided. The client for the first 24 hours shouldn’t expose to sun and should also avoid doing full coverage make up. However, it is possible that a person may have irritation, pain, or bleeding around the injection area.

Are there any risks associated with the procedure?

As injecting PRP involves using a person's own platelets, they do not usually experience any adverse reactions to the injections. But precautions always have to be taken around procedures involving blood and following the maximum hygiene standards should be a must.

What sets Eclipse PRP apart from PRP techniques?

ECLIPSE PRP is by far the most convenient kit in the market to save the platelets from damages as it contains less steps for collecting blood till the plasma is ready to be injected, which ensures the maximum benefits from the PRP is delivered.
